Course / Content Area: Produce clear coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Develop and strengthen writing as needed, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience. Use technology, including the internet, to produce, publish and update individual or shared writing products, taking advantage of technology’s capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically. Make Strategic use of digital media in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasonings, and evidence and to add interest.

Description: In this class, students will learn to use tools for creating websites. The focus will be on how to produce a dynamic and engaging website that will attract and maintain an audience. Students will learn to write for different audiences and will try styles including movie/food/art reviews, journaling, creative writing, critical responses to texts. There will be an art component to this class, where students will be able to integrate their knowledge in art projects and photography.



INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS:

At the end of this course, you will

  • know the techniques to engage an audience and sustain its attention
  • understand the importance of information technology in our contemporary world
  • be able to create a website on your own, and be able to keep it updated.

 

COURSE SCHEDULE

Daily Schedule

The first part of the class will be spent getting inspiration from other sites, or gathering information for our entries. The second part of the class will be for students to create and perfect their sites.



Calendar of Topics and Projects

Unit 1) Create a website using a specific platform

Unit 2) Write reviews on movies, art, food, books, etc.

Unit 3) Pulp Fiction and other creative productions

Unit 4) Research/Informational publishings

 

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

General Rules:

  • Students are permitted to miss no more than 15 classes for the semester - all absences beyond this point must be made up before or after school, 5 tardies = 1 absence
  • Students must use art supplies correctly and with respect
  • Respectful and kind behavior and language is expected at all times, students will be asked to the class if this does not happen
  • If students miss days, they must talk with teacher about making up all assignments

 

Grading Policies:

When students are absent, they are expected to make up all work they missed within 5 class days of their return to school.
