Course / Content Area: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II Syllabus
Description: This course fits into an overall program of mathematics studies with a rigorous academic core by extending what students have learned in the introductory Pre - Algebra/Geometry course as well as introducing more advanced topics. These advanced topics include understanding our number system, solving, graphing, and writing linear equations and inequalities, linear systems, exponents, quadratics, polynomials, and factoring.
INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS:
Topics covered throughout the year will include review and study of:
- Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities
- Modeling with Linear Functions
- Linear Applications: Sequences, Piecewise Functions, Systems of Equations and Inequalities
- Polynomial Expressions and Equations
- Modeling with Quadratic Functions
- Modeling with Exponential Functions
- Graphing and Interpreting Radical Functions
- Descriptive Statistics
COURSE SCHEDULE
Daily Schedule:
25 minutes - Lesson
Tues/Thurs; ALEKS program
Mon/Wed; Planning/Preparing/Learning about future project or doing the project
Fri; quiz, review
10-15 minutes - Wrap Up; journal, independent work, math games

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
General Rules:
- Students are permitted to miss no more than 15 classes for the semester - all absences beyond this point must be made up before or after school, 5 tardies = 1 absence
- Students must use art supplies correctly and with respect
- Respectful and kind behavior and language is expected at all times, students will be asked to the class if this does not happen
- If students miss days, they must talk with teacher about making up all assignments
Grading Policies:
When students are absent, they are expected to make up all work they missed within 5 class days of their return to school.
